Well here we are into October! The Summer Series has now ended, and it has been a hotly contested series by all accounts. With 65 Entrants and a total of 14 qualifiers with 7 or more races and 5 sailors with just 1 race short of qualifying.
I am sure you have all seen the Results Sheet e-mailed out by our Rear Commodore Sailing. I would just like to add my congratulations to the competitors in the Series, what a great Summer! I would also add a reminder that we are holding Prize Giving straight after sailing on Saturday 14th October which, incidentally, is the day we are holding our Terry Booth Trophy Race for 2017. This is a Juniors’ Race for all helms up to the age of 18, there is a very nice Trophy awarded and it is usually a hotly contested Race. Marie Booth will be in attendance to award the “Terry Booth” Trophy to the winning Helm.
There will, of course, be Normal Sailing during the day also. The ladies of the Galley are going to be putting on a ‘free’ Afternoon Tea for all sailors on the 14th and Spectators too. So please do come on down to the Club and enjoy the Day.
The “feeling” around the Club continues to be really positive with everyone involved enjoying our great Hobby/Sport. I am happy to be able to announce that we have recruited 6 new members over the last few weeks, so the Autumn Series looks set to be an exciting time, so dig out those Dry Suits/Wet Suits and warm sailing gear and lets make this Autumn Series the best we have had for a long time.
Your Committee, is dedicated to keeping Shustoke a successful and well-run club, and to this end we are having a Special Planning meeting this month. I will, of course, let you all know of our plans for the future after we have decided the Plan going forwards.
If any of you feel that you have any skills or abilities that feel you could offer to the Club we are always looking for volunteers to help us run our great Club, please do approach any of the Committee Members.
Shustoke, is a great Club and a great place to be, so why not decide to use your Club more often? The Autumn Series started just last weekend, it would be really nice to see a few more boats out taking part, even if you have not sailed for a while, come on down and give it a go, you never know you may just find that you like it!
Autumn Start Times, both Saturdays & Sundays:
First Race (Pursuit) 11:30, Second Race (Handicap) 13:30
