SHUSTOKE SC LARK/GP14 OPEN MEETING
28TH MARCH 2010
REPORT BY THE GP 14 FLEET CAPTAIN - SUE GILL
Conditions were ideal on Sunday 28th March 2010 for the Shustoke Sailing Club GP14 open meeting. 19 boats were faced with a Westerly wind of force 3 gusting 5, which allowed the Officers of the Day to set a ¾ mile long beat before a series of reaches giving three gybes downwind for three races. Simon Potts and Luke Shaw from the home club set the pace recording three bullets. Richard Instone and Linda Estaugh of Chase SC beat clubmates Graham Flynn and Adam Froggatt into third place by having a better last race, both boats scoring a second and a third. Nick Eaves and Graham Prosser from Bartley took fourth spot. Several boats sat out the third race and watched the spectacular capsizes, which, admittedly, came mainly from the lark fleet that were sharing the water.
Well done to the home fleet. Seven boats out is our best turnout for several years and in very testing conditions. Congratulations to Peter and Jenny Williams who were the only other home boat, apart from Pottsy, to sail all races.
And thanks to Scotty for the tip-off for the post racing meal. It saves having to cook when you get home.
Am I the only one struggling to walk downstairs this week?
