Man Overboard
Imagine 23 boats on the tide line rigged and ready to go with bows pointing out to sea. The only trouble is there's no sea but it's amazing how fast the tide rises at Snettisham Beach on the Wash, venue for Millenium Series Event 2. A fresh breeze and a good chop saw Bagsy mixing it with the best until disaster strikes and the helm falls overboard just as we reach the windward mark well into the top half of the fleet in race 3. But all is not lost. Cool as a cucumber crew, Tony Lloyd, takes control to execute a perfect man overboard recovery much to the admiration of fellow competitors who are by now overtaking us on the approach to the mark. Rounding last but undaunted Bagsy eventually finished 12th on the water only to be awarded 24 points for black flag disqualification! Bagsy finished 11th overall.

Crossing the Solent in company with 4 L2Ks and a Wayfarer from Lee on the Solent SC, Bagsy made landfall at Wootton Creek, Isle of Wight, on the Saturday of May Day bank holiday weekend. The return trip proved to be Bagsy's longest ever gennaker reach but don't expect big yachts on port to give way to a starboard tack dinghy. They don't. The next 2 days of the first Millennium Series event turned out to be very windy. Bagsy lived up to the helm's reputation by capsizing in all 3 races which she started and finished. Thank goodness for mast head buoyancy! On the last of 4 capsizes for the event, crew, Bob Heath was heard to mutter "Oh no, here we go again" !
Our finishing position was 14th out of 27 entries.

Welcome to Jim Padro who has brought another L2K to the dinghy park. To date that makes 14 boats in total though there are rumors of the imminent departure of the Lynch family.
Next MS Event
The next Millennium Series event is at Grafham Water (less than 2 hours via A14) on 12/13th June. There is free camping at the Sailing Club. Bagsy will be there.
Best wishes and good sailing from your fleet captain,
John
