Fleets Lark

Lark Fleet

The Lark was designed by Mike Jackson in the late sixties and is one of the first classes to be designed for the 'new fangled' material GRP.  Based on Mike's National 12 experience, the Lark is a restricted one design based on a hull made the master mould, held by the appointed builder.  Originally built by John Baker, the internal design progressed to the 'Baker 2' before being taken over by Parkers.  The Parker Mk1 was a technical progression from the Baker 2 before becoming the Parker Mk2, a much stiffer hull but incorporating possibly the most uncomfortable sidedecks ever made!

Rondar recovered the mould from the long grass of Lincolnshire after Parker lost interest and created a radically different deck moulding and a sandwich construction on which the currebnt boat is based.  The first Rondar Mk2 was made in year 2000 and the first number 2462 (although 2464 was actually the first boat of the type).

The moulds were moved to Ovington Boats (of 49er fame) in 2009 and they now produce the Lark hull in an epoxy sandwich construction.

The Lark is a two man hiking spinnaker boat offering exciting sailing at both Club and National level. The entry price of a reasonable boat is around £1000 rising to around £7,500 for a new one.  The beauty of the Lark fleet is that nationally competitive boats are available at the £1,500 mark with a recent National Champion's boat being circa 18 years old!

The Lark is suited to male and female helms including youths which makes fora very diverse and friendly racing fleet.

At Shustoke there is an active and competitive Lark fleet of National standard. Help is always at hand from current owners to advise and even provide some coaching for new Lark sailors.  There is a vibrant Lark Class Association that organises top sailing venues around the country for the Belle Isle travellers series for those that want to venture further a field.

The Association also puts on training events at various clubs including Shustoke.
