Lark News Jan 2011

Hi Larkies

Thanks to Stuart and his early morning text on Sunday, 3 went for a lark.  The ice had gone and the OD kindly delayed the start till 11.30, and not just for us.  With the Sun out and the wind steadily increasing over the first two races we had a fantastic sail.

Adrian and Hannah won the first race with the Biglins on their tail right to the end.  Ryan and Nic were not far behind despite  never putting the kite up.  They sailed very well together.
The second race was gifted to the Biglins when the pursuing Adrian &Hannah topped to test how cold the water was.  Even in this race the youngsters (no, not us!) finished just behind Adrian by putting their kite up when Adrian didn't.
In the third race Chris bailed out due to Man Flu (just not fit...) and in a declining wind Stuart took pity on me and helmed.  We had a tough time staying ahead of Adrian and lost the lead at one point but Stuart managed to sniggle us back into the lead before the end of the race.

It might be worth checking out your boat if you have left your sails in it over the snowy period as a mouse left us with a nice surprise.  We had a shredded sponge and a rather more expensive hole in the bottom of the sail which has now gone away to be mended.

Congratulations to the Hydons and Kevin & Lucy for competing in two regattas over the last couple of weeks;  In the Grafham Grand Prix the Hydons sailed their Fireball to 7th in the medium handicap fleet, and Kevin/Lucy came 18th in the Slow handicap sailing the Lark.

The Bloody Mary was last Saturday with both of them sailing their Larks.  Stuart came 15th overall (ahead of the P&B Team Lark) and Kevin "a little bit lower".

Is anyone Sailing this weekend?

Remember to put the Shustoke Lark Open meeting onto your calanders.  Sunday 20th March 2011.  Darren Padro will be OOD for us that day.  This is a joint open with the GP's.

13th - 20th August - Lark Nationals

Abersoch is this years destination.  Is anyone else going beside the Biglins & Hydons?
Entry opens on the Lark website on Feb 1st with the cheapest entry fee available to the first 30 entrants.

We need someone to represent the Lark Class on the Sailing Committee after this year's Shustoke AGM (Friday 18th March), does anyone feel able to speak up for us at Committee?

The Lark fixture list is now out on the Lark website.

Some members of Shustoke who sail other classes of boat are keen to have a go in a Lark.  Lets try and increase the number of Larks on the water.  Hopefully in the next couple of months we should see two (nearly identical apparently) new Ovi Larks on the water sailed by the Biglins and Hydons.
