Shustoke Sailing Club Offshore Section runs two programmes, cruising and racing.
The cruising programme is managed by Les Collier (email@example.com). Les will run 3 or 4 outings per year including one or two Try Yachting weekends in the Solent, and a longer weekend to the Channel Islands, Cherbourg peninsula or the South West. The Try Yachting weekends are designed for absolute beginners and are a great way to see if there's an inner Francis Chichester in you just waiting to be discovered !!!
Les also runs various RYA courses, including Day Skipper, Yachtmaster Theory and VHF.
Alan Skitt (firstname.lastname@example.org), the original founder of this section, is back again after spending some years cruising the Mediterranean. He offers a number of Boat Handling and Marina Skills weekends through the season, which are ideal if you are coming up through the ranks and fancy honing your boat handling skills, check out Alan's programme under Offshore Cruising
The racing programme is managed by Geoff Johns (email@example.com). Geoff runs an entry in the Sunsail Matched First 40 Racing programme that sails out of Port Solent: this is an ideal beginner yacht racing environment where those dinghy racing skills get translated into round the cans yacht racing. There are 6 race weekends between March and October. We will also aim to have an entry in the annual Round the Island Race in May.
As our pool of yachtsman develops going forward, so we plan to introduce some higher level offshore racing via JOG (Junior Offshore Group) and/or RORC (Royal Ocean Racing Club).
Our mission is to help our members discover yachting and yacht racing, and to help them move up the ladder of progression as they choose.
Membership and Joining In
You don't have to be a member of Shustoke Sailing Club to join in with our yachting programme, but we'd like to think after trying us out, you will be very keen to be part of the team !
There are two routes to membership of the Offshore Section:
1. All regular Shustoke Sailing Club dinghy sailing membership classes have automatic free membership.
2. Yachting Associate membership class provides a way to become a member if you are interested in joining our yachting programme, without the obligations of the dinghy sailing membership commitments. This membership is ideal if you live away from the Midlands, and are happy with an electronic membership style.
You can book your place on any of the published events via the portal on the Offshore Cruising and Racing Programme pages
