2023 Offshore Racing Programme

Sunsail Weekend Racing Events for 2023

Organised by Sunsail Events in Port Solent, racing takes place in the Eastern Solent on the Saturday and Sunday of the weekend concerned. We meet up on the Friday evening at Port Solent and enjoy a meal out together, then on Saturday night, we stay over in Cowes and sample some of the delights it has to offer. We have recently heard from Sunsail/Prometheus that the 2023 charter rates will remain the same as 2022: this is great news in these difficult times, and this means we will be able to offer a weekend of Sunsail racing for around £230 per head, which still represents tremendous value for money. Mark Bowers is organising our boat entries in 2023, so please get in touch with him to book your place and ask any questions you may have. Here is the Sunsail racing programme:-

Round Dates Places Available Places Booked
1 March 25/26 0 Fully booked

5 October 14/15 0 Fulbooked - MB, GJ, TD, JSD, PN, SOJ, SO, JB
Final November 4/5 0 Fully booked - MB, GJ, EH, HJ, JSD, NW, NB, JS

We have qualified for the final and the dates have been confirmed by Sunsail / Prometheus (see above). If you have sailed with the crew during the year, your booking request will be given priority.

Round The Island Race 2023

The RTIR is organised by the Island Sailing Club in Cowes and is one of those races all sailors must do, at least once. The atmosphere both in Cowes and at the start line is fantastic. And when you look back towards Cowes and see 500+ boats behind you, it is an amazing sight you will never forget.

Nina Wilson is organising our entry in 2023, so please get in touch with her to ask any questions you may have.

We are planning to enter a single Sunfast 41: here is an outline of the programme:-

Day Date Programme
Thursday Evening June 29th Join the boat at Port Solent and meet up with your fellow crew-mates from about 7pm.
Friday June 30th Practice Day !!! - On Friday morning we will sail down the Solent, practising our boat handling skills, check out the starting area and arrive at Cowes Yacht Haven in the afternoon.
Saturday July 1st Race Day !! - An early get-up for an early race start. The actual race starts and finishes outside Cowes Harbour, so it will be very busy with over 1000 participating boats. It will be a full day's race, and on returning back to Cowes in the evening you'll be feeling triumphant and shattered !! Enjoy the festivities !!!
Sunday July 2nd On Sunday morning, after a lazy get-up and breakfast, we will have a leisurely sail back to Port Solent, arriving back at base by 4.30pm latest.

Costs

Based on a crew of 8 per boat, the approximate cost per person will be £660. The cost includes race entry, two nights berthing at Cowes, dinner onboard on Thursday evening, all breakfasts, lunches and snacks over the weekend, fuel, wet weather gear and lifejackets, and an insurance damage liability limitation waiver cost of £400 per boat (to be confirmed). This insurance waiver would reduce the crew's maximum liability from £3,500 currently to around £1,500, in the event of a claim.

A deposit of £100 is required to reserve your place and the remaining balance will be due 12 weeks before the event, on Friday 14th April. The deposit is refundable if you cancel prior to 14th April, but once the balance is paid, the whole amount is not refundable and if you cancel, you will forfeit the whole amount.
